High on the success of our first southwest road trip, we decided to return to Santa Fe and then drive north, through Great Sand Dunes National Park, Pike’s Peak, Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, ghost towns, Maroon Bells and Breckinridge, and Rocky Mountain National Park. Watching bull elks strut their stuff at sunset in the park’s meadows during mating season was an unforgettable capstone to the trip.
